About us

The Faringdon United Charity was formed in 1971 and was the amalgamation of seventeen charities. The oldest, The Charity of Sir Valentine Knightly for the poor, dating back to 1620.

The remaining charities were formed during the following centuries of which the latest, The Pocock Widowers’ and Widows’ Fund, was founded in 1938.

The charity is run by a group of volunteers who meet regularly to manage the charity’s resources. The photograph shows the beautiful medieval All Saints’ Church in Faringdon, where the origins of the charity are recorded on Charity Boards dating back to the 18th century.

Who can be helped?

Faringdon United Charity provides support to residents of Faringdon, Little Coxwell, Littleworth and adjacent parishes. The charity aims to assist those in need who for whatever reason cannot easily obtain the help they require from public funds. Help is generally only given when all other channels have been exhausted.

There is particular emphasis on helping the elderly, the infirm, children and young people, those with special needs, medical needs or help with their education.

The charity also supports organisations that provide community support and activity such as The Day Centre, The Foodbank, YoCo, Faze, The Place and CAB.
